PRESS RELEASE - 18th NOVEMBER 2003
New low-cost 75W power supply is aimed at fire panels and telemetry systems

New from Lincoln-based manufacturer VxI Power is the Oracle 14848 battery-backed switch-mode power supply, which has been designed to meet the exacting demands of the fire protection industry and is also likely to find application in the telemetry field.
Available in both 12V and 24V versions, this competitively priced 75W PSU complies with the performance, environmental, electrical-safety and EMC requirements of the EN54-4 standard for power supplies used in fire detection and alarm systems.
Providing one main output and one battery-charge output, the 14848 unit offers the designer a great deal of flexibility by allowing the total output current to be apportioned between the two outputs in accordance with customer requirements.
An independent current limit of 1A for the battery-charge output guards the system against faulty batteries and ensures that the main output can function immediately on reconnection of the mains supply after a failure, regardless of the state of charge of the battery.
In line with the stringent requirements of EN54-4, the power supply has dual main output connections, which are independently protected by user-replaceable fuses.
Other built-in circuitry provides protection against reverse polarity, overvoltages and short-circuit overloads, while an undervoltage lockout facility prevents damage to the battery when it is discharged. The PSU incorporates two volt-free relays, two open-collector TTL outputs and four LEDs for monitoring system status.
Optional features include an auxiliary output with a maximum power rating of 30W, a regulated main output to provide constant voltage irrespective of battery charge level, and Klippon quick-release input and output connections instead of the standard screw terminals.
Available in DIN rail mount or panel mount styles, the Oracle 14848 power supply has overall dimensions of 179.5 x 96.0 x 45.0mm and can be used in ambient temperatures ranging from -20 to 70degC, derating by 2.5%/degC at temperatures above 50degC.
